NEW WORKS

Commissioning new works has always been of great importance to the Allegri Quartet, complementing their performances of classic repertoire.

Their recent world premières have included specially commissioned quartets by Anthony Payne and Alec Roth, plus a new song cycle by Matthew Taylor for string quartet and tenor, based on traditional Portuguese Fado melodies.

Other recent commissions include quartets by Martyn Harry, Michael Stimpson and Matthew Taylor, a clarinet quintet by James MacMillan, and a string quintet with two violas by John Woolrich.

The Quartet included some of these works in its 50^th Anniversary Season.
